The two-seat vehicle features no steering wheel, pedals, or conventional rearview mirrors, relying entirely on Tesla's autonomous driving software. Concurrently, Tesla unveiled plans for the Cybercab's public introduction in China, with showcase appearances scheduled for mid-September 2026 in Beijing, Shanghai, and other major cities. The company emphasized these exhibitions are limited to design and technology displays, clarifying that no commercial robotaxi service or vehicle sales are planned for the Chinese market at this time.

The operational fleet currently comprises 45 registered Cybercabs as of August 31, 2026, according to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles records, following 38 recent registrations. These vehicles were previously employed primarily for employee evaluation. The robotaxi demonstrates notable energy efficiency, consuming approximately 10.2 kWh per 100 kilometers, powered by a 47.6-kWh battery pack with an 163-kW motor, and achieving a laboratory-tested range of 673 kilometers.

Tesla has implemented an "Unboxed" manufacturing approach for Cybercab production, enabling parallel assembly of subcomponents before final integration. The vehicle includes wireless charging and automated cleaning systems designed for driverless operations, reducing human involvement in maintenance and fleet turnover. Long-term operational targets aim for $0.20 cost per mile at production scale—currently aspirational rather than actual for the limited present fleet.
