BYD Reveals Second-Generation Seagull Cabin Design as Model Grows to 4.2-Meter Five-Seat Hatchback

BYD released official cabin design sketches for the second-generation Seagull on 25 September 2026, revealing substantial interior and control layout changes. The redesigned dashboard eliminates a separate driver instrument display, presenting driving information through an elevated floating central touchscreen instead. The company repositioned the transmission selector to a steering-column stalk, replaced by a horizontal row of physical buttons below central air vents, while maintaining an open storage section and wireless charging pad beneath the raised center bridge.

According to regulatory filings from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new model measures 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. These dimensions represent increases of 425 mm in length and 150 mm in wheelbase over the first generation, while seating capacity expands from four to five passengers.

Both available variants feature a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 95 kW (127 horsepower), a substantial step up from the previous generation's 55 kW. The models employ lithium iron phosphate batteries available in 30 and 39.2 kWh capacities, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 320 and 420 kilometers respectively, or approximately 259 and 340 kilometers under WLTP testing standards.

One optional configuration includes a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor alongside front, rear, and side radar units, compatible with BYD's DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system. BYD has confirmed market entry in China during 2026 but has not disclosed a specific launch date or pricing information for the second-generation model.
